YAC Blogging - where youth speak out!

Welcome to the YAC blog. Just what is a YAC, you ask? Well it stands for Youth Advisory Council. Here in Maine, we think youth are pretty important. We think they have a right to make their own decisions, or at least have information available to them. Please feel free to use this blog as a place for discussions about your health care, work experiences, school experiences, anything you want to share!

The Maine YAC is a part of a grant from the government called Integrated Services for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs in Maine. Here are the Goals & Objectives, you can also find out more about IS on the website - www.servicesforme.org.

• Goal 1:
  Youth with special health care needs and their families will collaborate in decision making at all levels and will be satisfied with the services they receive.
• Goal 2:
  All children and youth with special health care needs will receive coordinated, ongoing, comprehensive care within a medical home.
• Goal 3:
  All children and youth will be screened early and continuously for special health care needs.
• Goal 4:
  All youth with special health care needs and their families will have sufficient private and/or public insurance to pay for the services they need.
• Goal 5:
  Services for children and youth with special health care needs and their families will be organized in ways that families and youth can navigate and use them easily.
• Goal 6:
  All youth with special health care needs will receive the services necessary to make appropriate transitions to all aspects of adult life, including adult health care, work, and independence.
